July 17, 2014 By admin

Judge Siobhan McGrath has apologised to the leaseholder whose complaints led to Benjamin Mire losing his judicial appointment. MPs don’t like what they see …

Leasehold houses expose ‘gulf between the letter and the spirit of the law’, say ministers

So far, ministers are showing no sign of a wobble in criticising housebuilders for fleecing their customers with leasehold houses. “Both the Secretary of State Sajid Javid MP and the Housing Minister Gavin Barwell MP have been looking closely at the issue of leasehold houses and escalating ground rents,” the DCLG tells a leaseholder […]

Taylor Wimpey’s Pete Redfern tells FT ‘we got it wrong on ground rents’

By Harry Scoffin Pete Redfern, the chief executive of Taylor Wimpey, this week told the Financial Times that his company “got it wrong” on leaseholds. Stella Creasy MP backs leasehold reform … and Kirstie Allsopp is Tweeting to stop leasehold house sales

The influential Labour MP Stella Creasy singled out the work of colleagues Jim Fitzpatrick and Sir Peter Bottomley on leasehold reform in an interview with Andrew Marr on BBC TV yesterday. The MP said reforming leasehold and other social issues were just the tasks MPs should be engaged in during this Parliament. The section can […]

Bloor Homes, which builds leasehold houses, gives £400,000 to the Conservative Party

John Bloor, the founder of Bloor Homes, has donated £400,000 to the Conservative Party, even though his company builds leasehold houses that have been criticised by Theresa May. Mr Bloor’s donation, made through his company JS Bloor (Services) Limited, was received on May 3. The news coincides with LKP asking Bloor Homes, and Redrow and […]

APPG, December 6: Park home banditry; Law Commission; Planners barring leasehold houses; London deputy mayor; gargantuan Grenfell bills for leaseholders

We are all waiting for Sajid Javid The All Party Parliamentary Group on leasehold and commonhold reform met on December 6 at Westminster. Although government has recently pledged £200m […]

Legal army to stop West India Quay getting … a recognised residents’ association

Giving recognition to a residents’ association at the most exclusive apartment block in Canary Wharf posed the sort of “risks that you see with the trade unions”, the First-Tier Tribunal was told last Thursday. The remark was made by the freeholder’s professional witness, chartered surveyor Bruce Maunder Taylor – and was greeted with guffaws of […]
